Creative Spirit Editing will endeavor to flag elements of a work that may require copyright permissions. Extra charges may apply if you have a manuscript containing a high number of images, lists, graphs, bibliographies, or other specialized formatting. Please contact me to obtain a quote for your specialized project.
Creative Spirit Editing is not a publisher. Authors retain full rights to all files. However, Creative Spirit Editing retains the copyright to all suggested edits and changes to the manuscript until payment is received in full.
Creative Spirit Editing does not distribute, print, or provide any type of marketing services.
Payment is via PayPal. A deposit of half of the payment due is required after submission and on receipt of the invoice, the remainder is due on delivery of the completed project. Authors will be sent a PayPal invoice to the email address given on the submission form. It is not necessary to have a PayPal account in order to pay the invoice (there is no extra charge to the author).
A word about perfection: While Creative Spirit Editing strives to make your manuscript as close to perfect as possible, it's simply not realistic to guarantee 100% perfection. No professional copyeditor or proofreader will be able to promise to make your text perfect. Perfection is subjective. While some errors are indisputable, others are not.
After delivery of the final project, authors must contact Creative Spirit Editing within seven days to let me know if there is an error or problem with their manuscript or formatted book. Content errors such as newly introduced text, or other author-created errors are not covered in this guarantee.
Manuscript formatting guidelines: Email me a docx file of your manuscript. Please be sure to include information such as copyright, ISBN (if needed), title, acknowledgements, and indicate any other special sections. Please do not add any extra line breaks within your manuscript as this may adversely affect the formatting. For ebook requests, also upload your cover image as a separate file.
Ebook cover file guidelines: Email me a jpg, png, or tiff file of your cover image. For best results, cover images should be sized at 2560 pixels tall. Authors will be contacted in the event that there is an issue with the submitted cover image.
Services Offered: Translation Editing – German to (American) English genre fiction – $5 per page (based on 250 words per page) Are you a German genre fiction author? Are you interested in breaking into the American market? I offer German to American English translation services. I specialize in translating German to English genre fiction and copyediting English language fiction. Although born in the United States, I grew up bilingual as a native German and English speaker. I’m passionate about always maintaining the author's true voice in my English translations of your German novel. As a native speaker in both languages, I have the advantage of inherently understanding all idioms and idiosyncrasies of both languages. This is especially important for narration and dialogue in genre fiction, which tends toward the more colloquial. Many translators, who learned academically or from living in a country, will often still have difficulty with idioms and the non-written rules of the language. Translations follow the Chicago Manual of Style. Turnaround time, once a project is scheduled, is roughly four to six weeks for a 100,000-word manuscript. Before committing to a project, I am happy to provide a complimentary 1,000-word sample translation. I have found that this is the best way for an author to determine whether we are a good fit for each other. References are available upon request.
Line Editing – $6 per page (based on 250 words per page) Line editing goes deeper than copy editing and includes suggestions for unclear wording, redundancies, syntax, inconsistencies, and awkward sentences, as well as spelling errors, grammar, and minor formatting issues. Please note: Line editing does not include big picture developmental editing. I am happy to provide a complimentary 1,000-word sample edit.
Copy Editing – $5 per page (based on 250 words per page) Copy editing includes suggestions for unclear wording, redundancies, and syntax, as well as spelling errors, grammar, and minor formatting issues. Inconsistencies and awkward sentences are flagged rather than including a suggested revision. Please note: Copy editing does not include big picture developmental editing or line editing. I am happy to provide a complimentary 1,000-word sample edit.
Proofreading – $4 per page (based on 250 words per page) Proofreading includes previously missed spelling errors, and minor grammar and formatting issues. Please note: Proofreading does not include any content or developmental editing. This should be considered a final last pass of your manuscript and assumes all prior editing of your manuscript (developmental editing and line/copy editing). I am happy to provide a complimentary 1,000-word sample proofread.
Ebook Formatting – for genre fiction only – $35 I use Vellum software to format your genre fiction ebook into all available formats. After choosing their preferred style options for the layout, the author will receive a suite of digital files compatible with Kindle, Apple, Nook, Kobo, Google, and Generic EPUB (D2D, Smashwords). Please note that the author must provide an appropriately sized cover image and ISBN number (if needed). For an extra fee of $35, authors may add-on paperback and large print formatting for interior pages only (does not include the wrap-around cover).
